Reopening of our dental practice in Zurich – a new chapter begins.

30 years of trust – reinterpreted!

Dear patients, I am very pleased to inform you that I will be taking over the dental practice of Dr. med. dent. Silvio Grilec at Limmattalstrasse 204 in 8049 Zurich as of 1 March 2025.

It is also a great pleasure for me to be able to lead this traditional practice, which has been providing high-quality dental care for over 30 years, into the future with fresh impetus. A little about me so that you know who will be responsible for your smile in future: I come from the canton of Valais, but grew up in the canton of Aargau. I studied dentistry at the University of Zurich – a place that has left its mark on me. During my studies and beyond, I was able to live in Höngg for several years, which is why I feel particularly close to this neighbourhood.

Since graduating in 2018, I have gained a lot of experience in both private practices and clinics and have continued to develop my skills through numerous training courses in order to provide you with the best dental care. It is important to me to continue the high-quality work of Dr med. dent. Silvio Grilec with the same commitment and precision.

To give the practice a breath of fresh air and bring it up to date with the latest technology, it will be closed for modernisation in March 2025. This will involve comprehensive digitalisation, which will not only make work processes more efficient, but also more sustainable. The practice will be closed from 1 March to 4 April 2025 before welcoming you with a new lease of life from 7 April 2025.

Furthermore, in the first weeks after the reopening, I will work closely with Dr med. dent. Silvio Grilec to ensure a seamless transition for you. I am very much looking forward to meeting you in person soon and continuing to support you in your dental health. Until then, thank you for your trust and continued loyalty to the practice. Together we will shape the next phase in an environment that remains both modern and welcoming. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr med. dent. Silvio Grilec for his many years of commitment and wish him all the best, good health and fulfilling new chapters for the future.

With best regards

Dr. med. dent. Florina Jaggy

Prophylaxis: Healthy teeth for a healthy lifestyle!

Healthy teeth and a radiant smile don’t just happen by themselves. Behind every flawless smile is regular dental care – and one crucial measure: prophylaxis. But what exactly is behind this term and why is prophylaxis so important for your oral health? In this article, you will learn everything you need to know about dental prophylaxis – from the basics to practical tips for everyday life.

What is prophylaxis?

In dentistry, prophylaxis refers to all preventive measures that counteract the development of dental and oral diseases. This includes daily dental care at home and professional treatments at the dentist. The aim is to prevent diseases such as tooth decay or gingivitis before they develop. The combination of personal oral hygiene and regular visits to the dentist forms the basis for healthy teeth in the long term.

Why is prophylaxis so important?

Regular prophylaxis makes a significant contribution to maintaining oral health and protects against serious diseases such as periodontitis. It not only reduces the risk of gum inflammation and tooth decay, but also helps to avoid costs and time-consuming treatments in the long term. Healthy teeth and gums also improve general well-being and can even reduce the risk of systemic diseases such as cardiovascular problems.

Tips for prophylaxis at home

Consistent oral care at home is an important part of prophylaxis. Please note the following tips:

Brush your teeth: Brush your teeth at least twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste to remove plaque and bacteria.

Dental floss: Use dental floss daily to thoroughly clean the spaces between your teeth.

Mouthwash: An antibacterial mouthwash can supplement oral hygiene and promote gum health.

Diet: Make sure you eat a balanced diet that is low in sugar and rich in vitamins and minerals.

Professional prophylaxis at the dentist

In addition to home care, regular professional dental cleaning at the dentist is essential. This removes stubborn plaque and tartar that cannot be removed by daily brushing. Fluoride treatments can also strengthen the enamel and thus increase the resistance of your teeth.

How often is prophylaxis at the dentist necessary?

Experts recommend that most people have their teeth professionally cleaned at least once a year. If there is an increased risk of gum disease or tooth decay – for example due to genetic predisposition or certain illnesses – shorter intervals may also be advisable. Your dentist will give you a personalised recommendation.

Frequently asked questions about prophylaxis

1. What is the difference between home care and professional tooth cleaning?

While you remove plaque and superficial discolouration at home, the dental hygienist and, in certain situations, the dentist clean hard-to-reach areas and remove stubborn tartar. This deeper cleaning ensures better prevention of tooth decay and gum disease.

2. Can professional teeth cleaning damage my teeth?

No, it is safe and protects your teeth and gums. The treatment is carried out by qualified professionals and helps to prevent long-term damage.

3. Is fluoride necessary for good prophylaxis?

Fluoride strengthens tooth enamel and offers additional protection against tooth decay. Your dentist will decide whether fluoride treatment makes sense for you.

4. How can I reduce my risk of dental disease?

Brushing your teeth regularly, using dental floss, eating a healthy diet and avoiding risk factors such as smoking are crucial. Visits to the dentist for check-ups and professional dental cleanings are also important.

Prophylaxis is the first step to a healthy smile. With the right combination of home care and professional measures, you can keep your teeth healthy for a lifetime. Make an appointment today and start your prophylaxis routine – your teeth will thank you for it!

How to protect your teeth in winter: Expert tips for a radiant smile!

Winter brings with it freezing temperatures, cold winds and the enjoyment of hot drinks – but all of this can take a toll on your teeth. From increased tooth sensitivity to an increased risk of tooth decay from sweet treats during the festive season, it’s important to adapt your dental care to the particular challenges of the colder months.

In this article, you will find helpful tips on how to optimally care for your teeth and maintain oral health in winter. You can also find out how the Zahnloft team can support you.

Challenges for dental health in winter

The cold months pose particular challenges for your teeth:

1. Tooth sensitivity due to cold

Cold air, hot drinks or ice-cold food can be painful for people with worn enamel or receding gums. These temperature changes stress the teeth and can lead to an unpleasant pulling sensation.

2. Increased sugar consumption

The festive season tempts us with sweets, biscuits and sugary drinks such as cocoa. However, sugar promotes the growth of bacteria in the mouth that cause tooth decay and can lead to long-term damage to the teeth.

3. Reduced saliva production due to dehydration

During the cold season, many people drink less water. This leads to reduced saliva production. As saliva neutralises acids and rinses food debris out of the mouth, a low amount of saliva increases the risk of tooth decay.

4. Teeth grinding (bruxism)

Stress caused by the holidays, cold days or changes in routine can increase teeth grinding. This so-called bruxism can wear away tooth enamel, cause pain in the jaw and damage the teeth in the long term.

Our tips for healthy teeth in winter

With the right dental care, you can protect your teeth even in the cold season. Here are the best tips:

1. Brush your teeth gently and effectively

Brush your teeth at least twice a day for two minutes each time using a soft toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Also clean your tongue to remove bacteria that cause bad breath.

2. Use dental floss

Floss daily to remove plaque and food debris from between your teeth. This is particularly important as the toothbrush does not reach these areas.

3. Drink water regularly

Even if you are less thirsty in winter, it is important to drink enough. Water supports saliva production, protects against tooth decay and keeps the oral mucosa healthy.

4. Reduce sugar

Limit your consumption of sugary snacks and drinks. Instead, opt for healthy alternatives such as nuts, fruit or vegetable sticks.

5. Protect sensitive teeth

If you have sensitive teeth, use a toothpaste that has been specially developed for them. Avoid extreme temperatures with food and drink. See your dentist if sensitivity persists.

6. Splint against teeth grinding

If you suffer from bruxism, your dentist can make you a splint. This protects the teeth from wear and tear and relieves pain in the jaw.

7. Regular visits to the dentist

Go for a check-up and professional teeth cleaning at least once a year. Your dentist can recognise problems early and treat them before they get worse.

Dental implants in the Zahnloft Zurich. The modern solution for missing teeth!

Why dental implants?

Missing teeth are not only an aesthetic problem, but can also lead to health problems. Dental implants offer a modern, long-lasting and natural-looking solution for missing teeth. At our dental practice in Zurich, we use state-of-the-art techniques to give you back your radiant smile.

What are dental implants?

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root made of titanium or ceramic that is firmly anchored in the jaw. A crown or bridge is attached to it so that the prosthesis resembles a real tooth both visually and functionally. In contrast to removable dentures, implants offer a high level of comfort and stability. However, the retention of removable dentures can also be improved using implants.

Advantages of dental implants:

Natural appearance: Implants blend harmoniously into the dentition.

Longevity: With good care, implants often last a lifetime.

High wearing comfort: No slipping or unpleasant feeling of pressure.

Preservation of the jaw bone structure: Implants prevent bone recession.

No interference with other teeth: Unlike bridges, neighbouring teeth do not have to be ground down.

Der Ablauf einer Implantation

Individual consultation
In a personal consultation, we analyse your dental situation and clarify whether a dental implant is the right solution for you. Thanks to state-of-the-art 3D diagnostics, we can plan the procedure precisely and go into all the details of your situation in a further consultation.

Insertion of the implant
The implant is inserted into the jawbone under local anaesthetic or, if desired, under sedation. After a healing period of around 2-4 months, the implant will bond firmly with the bone.

Fixing the denture
After the healing phase, the customised dental crown is attached to the implant. The result: a stable, natural-looking tooth.

Costs of dental implants in the Zahnloft

The cost of a dental implant depends on various factors, including the number of implants, the material used and any pre-treatment (e.g. bone augmentation). In our practice, you will receive a transparent cost estimate after a detailed examination.
